Wednesday, 6 August 2008 - Burford Good Byes!!
We got up and had another large breakfast of which again saw us through the day. Had a quick walk through Burford and did some posting & Antique browsing, Then it was good bye to Burford and off to our first stop the Kelmscott Manor, the country home of William Morris, http://www.kelmscotmanor.co.uk. We waited to see this as it is only open on a Wednesday so expectations were a bit higher than normal. I found the house to be interior to be light and peaceful, however although the house was full with pleasant pieces, there wasn't the quality of work of William Morris that I was hoping to see. The accompanying garden was pleasant & was very plainly every bit the county escape W.M had intended it to be. This was the place he drew much inspiration from.
We then made our way to Blenheim Palace located in Woodstock, just 8 miles from Oxford The Palace is a world heritage site, we had a tour through the state rooms where we saw lots of portraits and huge tapestries. I enjoyed seeing the magnificence of it! We went through an animated story where ghostly figures were used to tell stories of the 1st Duchess Sarah Churchill & the 8th Duke with his laboratory It was ok. Time was limited from here so we headed off to view the gardens we saw the Italian & Secret Garden and we walked past the temple of Diana, the cascade pump house, lakeside walk and boat house. Steve really enjoyed the large scale of the land and the cascade falls which of which are all man-made. I quite like the Vanbrugh's grand bridge ant the thought that there was once 30 rooms at the bottom of this bridge where parties where held however this was all flooded to created the lake. I wanted to drain the water and view the rooms!:0

One wing only...

courtyard...
At the end of the day we then headed off to Wolverhampton, Perton to visit and old friend of Steven's who he used to share holiday adventures with at Ahwitu.
After arriving very late it was great to finally be catching up with David, Emma and their 17month old son Charlie. We chatted for quite a while before heading of to bed.

Looks like you're seeing lots.
Try the taxis? I don't recommend them for getting across town in a hurry - the underground is much faster.
My favourite was the Air Force museum - but hey, i'm biased.
Try the London Eye?
